In this session of Started in PA we chat with CEO Maureen Mulvihill of Actuated Medical, Inc. (AMI) a manufacturer of FDA-compliant medical devices.

In March 2020, Actuated Medical acted quickly to the COVID-19 healthcare crisis and pivoted to making face shields to support clinicians’ needs for additional personal protective equipment (PPE). Since April, they have expanded manufacturing face shield product offerings for students, hard hat and football helmet face shields.

During Q & A we will unmask 🙂 how Maureen and her team got such a quick start engineering, putting together the team and creating an ecommerce channel for sales, online ordering, distribution and more.

Maureen L. Mulvihill, Ph.D., President & CEO, Actuated Medical, Inc.: Maureen co-founded Actuated Medical, Inc. (AMI) on the entrepreneurial idea that they could solve clinical needs using electronically controlled motion. Over the last 13 years, Maureen built a central Pennsylvania company that develops, manufactures and sells medical devices. Due to COVID-19, AMI started manufacturing reusable face shields. The line expanded to include face shields for children, hard hats, and football helmets.

Maureen has been recognized over 34 times nationally and internationally for her entrepreneurial leadership. In 2020, she was elected to the AdvaMed BOD alongside Fortune 500 CEOs. She received her Ph.D. from Penn State.

Actuated Medical, Inc. (AMI) designs and develops next-generation, FDA-compliant medical devices. Products are designed, tested, and manufactured under an approved ISO standard. AMI is known for its innovative TubeClear system, a medical device that allows clinicians to maintain flow of feeding tubes in patients who cannot eat orally. In April 2020, AMI announced on that it started manufacturing Face Shields for first responders and medical professionals battling the Coronavirus pandemic. The company is currently developing over 20 new products for clinical and research applications.
