As winter blankets the counties within the Pennsylvania Alleghenies, the region transforms into a hub of activity, hosting a variety of events that cater to diverse interests. From thrilling sports competitions to enchanting concerts, there’s something for everyone. Here’s a look at some of the best events happening from now through the end of February.
Penn State Basketball – State College, Centre County
Now–March 2025
The Bryce Jordan Center is the place for basketball enthusiasts. Penn State Nittany Lions men’s and women’s basketball games promise exhilarating moments, fierce rivalries and a chance to witness future stars in action. The atmosphere in the arena is electric, and attending a game is an experience that showcases the passion of college sports in Pennsylvania.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra: The Lost Christmas Eve – State College, Centre County

This year, the multi-platinum rock group Trans-Siberian Orchestra (TSO) is coming to State College. The tour marks a triple celebration: 20 years of the beloved rock opera, reaching 20 million concertgoers and surpassing an incredible $20 million donated to charity.

Winterfest Parade 2024 – Hollidaysburg, Blair County

Festival of Ice – Downtown Lewistown, Mifflin County
December 5th & 6th, 2024
The Festival of Ice is the perfect way to kick off the holiday season in the Juniata River Valley. This free Christmas event celebrates the jolliest time of the year!
Attendees can gaze at beautifully carved ice sculptures, enjoy a wagon ride, visit the live nativity, shop at the holiday market, listen to carolers, participate in children’s activities and even meet Santa Claus himself. This hometown holiday tradition, brought to you by the Juniata River Valley Visitors Bureau and its dedicated team of volunteers, is the perfect place to celebrate the joy of the season and create lasting memories with friends, family and loved ones.

Huntingdon Community Center Winterfest – Huntingdon County
December 6th & 7th, 2024
What better way to go Christmas shopping than at Winterfest? This fundraiser features a variety of local, independent merchants offering items such as soaps, candles, wreaths and festive home decor.
After a day of shopping, attendees can enjoy a “soup showdown” between board members during lunch, where visitors can vote for their favorite soup. The event will bring back the popular All-You-Can-Eat spaghetti dinner on Friday evening, making it a delightful experience for the whole community.
