National HVAC company on why it’s firmly planted in Altoona: “We like it here.”

Starting with just one client in its first year and a whole lot of cold calling later, this successful business has proven that persistence and determination pay off. Owner Beau DeFiccio said, “You just have to put your head down and work. Eventually that hard work pays off.”

DeFiccio said that Startup Alleghenies has helped the company’s growth in a lot of ways, for example, by helping to acquire a grant. “The Mid-State Solutions Group was awarded a grant that allowed us to display our work at a trade show which has yielded new contacts and clients,” he said.

DeFiccio shared that growing his company enables him to add value to the community by hiring local residents. “I could do this work anywhere because we have clients all over the country, but we like it here. Our team includes myself, my business partner, Mike, and three employees,” he said.

With building automation, an entire HVAC system can run with little to no human interaction. DeFiccio explained, “We design the system and lay out the pieces and wiring so that the system knows what to do based on data points that we establish.”

The Mid-State Solutions Group’s unique selling proposition is that its team does it better than the competition. DeFiccio noted, “We are very detail oriented. A lot of other designers build with generic assumptions in mind, we do a full evaluation to look at the specific needs of each job we are designing.”

The Mid-State Solutions Group has been bringing comfort to commercial buildings all over the country for the last six years, but when DeFiccio first started out he said he really didn’t know if the idea would succeed. “People started complimenting our work and we slowly gained more clients. We have nearly quadrupled our revenue since 2017. Our tenacity has paid off and I take great pride in our work,” he shared.
