Spice Sisters feel the love at Valentine’s event

Since bringing Spice Sisters Craft Condiments to Johnstown, Margaret Brabham and Yasmeen Hasan have been working hard to grow awareness and a customer base for their line flavor-packed, globally-inspired spice mixes and sauces. (Read our previous story.)

In addition to attending local events, they get their name out through the local media. The Spice Sisters have been on WTAJ’s Studio 814 program three times. “This is definitely improving our brand credibility and recognition,” Margaret said. “I have stopped counting the number of times someone says, ‘Oh yeah, I’ve heard of Spice Sisters.’”

For Valentine’s Day, as part of an ongoing collaboration with The Write Cup Coffee Shop (which uses three Spice Sisters products in their coffee drinks and meals), they hosted an event featuring a seven-course tasting menu, with drinks and dishes built around their unique flavor offerings. Yasmeen called it “a great success,” so much so that they’re planning another special event. This time, they’ll offer a 12-course tasting menu honoring March as National Sauce Month, Sauce-a-Rama a la Spice Sisters. Watch their Instagram and Facebook for details.

On a larger scale, the Spice Sisters are working with PennTAP (the Pennsylvania Technical Assistance Program at Penn State)—a federal, state, and University partnership to stimulate statewide economic development—on a project to increase production of their spice blends. They’ll partner with Penn State and Gannon University students to launch a Kickstarter in April.
