In a world where gun ownership is prevalent, it is crucial that individuals receive proper training to ensure safety and confidence in their abilities. Bryan Shope, the founder and owner of Precision Firearms Training, recognized this need and turned his passion for firearms and teaching into a business. Since its inception in May 2021, Precision Firearms Training has equipped individuals with the necessary skills to handle firearms responsibly while instilling a sense of confidence and comfort.
Filling the training gap
As a handgun, shotgun and rifle instructor for the Department of Corrections, Shope witnessed a surge in gun sales and realized that many gun owners lacked the proper training. “People need training in carrying handguns,” Shope explained.
Armed with his NRA certifications, he began scheduling classes, viewing it as a side hustle and retirement gig. “My motivation stemmed from a genuine concern for public safety and a desire to eliminate the negative stigma surrounding firearms,” he said.

Shope’s dedication to providing quality training goes beyond class sizes and focuses on empowering individuals. Initially facing small class sizes, he always kept sight of his mission. “I stopped worrying about the class size and just started teaching,” Shope said. “Word of mouth and the positive feedback from my students has paid off and been so rewarding. I believe that by equipping more people with the confidence and knowledge to carry firearms, the community can work towards reducing gun-related incidents.”
Shope has recently joined Alleghenies Marketplace to connect with local consumers. “Becoming a vendor in the Marketplace can expand my reach and attract more clients to learn about firearms,” he explained. “It will allow me to connect with a larger audience.”

Precision Firearms Training is focused on catering to individuals lacking confidence, and the personalized approach creates a comprehensive and convenient experience. “We take pride in offering a one-on-one atmosphere where participants can try out various firearms and accessories to find their preferences,” Shope said. “A person who doesn’t own a firearm can come to our class and try 6-8 pistols to decide what they like and don’t like. Beyond the training, we also assist students with choosing the right gear, such as hearing protection, safety glasses and gun safes.”
Reflecting on his journey, Shope offers valuable advice to fellow entrepreneurs—“Start small, allowing room for learning and gradual growth so you can learn as you go. This will help build a solid foundation for success.”
